Preparing Mercer County for the Future

Help us campaign today for a better tomorrow!

Introduction, Mission and Goals

My name is Marcus Kohan and I am running for the office of County Commissioner for Mercer County, Pennsylvania. If elected, my mission will be to work with local governmental entities to improve our county in three specific ways:

The first will be to address our deteriorating infrastructure. It affects our safety as well as local commerce. I will make sure that our roads and bridges are repaired and rebuilt to today’s standards.  I will identify infrastructure weaknesses in vital resources such as our electrical grid, fresh water distribution system and waste water services. I will direct that improvements are made so that these key resources have maximum availability to all who depend on them.

The second is to encourage economic growth and business development in Mercer County.  This will increase our tax base through job creation, not over-taxation, so that we can provide much needed improvements to the county and services to our people and our communities. This will also include preparing our workforce for the future through skill-based and high technology education.

The third, and probably the most important is to work with Law-Enforcement at all levels and attack the drug problem we have in Mercer County. We must utilize all of our resources to end this tragedy and protect our children and young people. They are our greatest resource and it is our responsibility to end the flow coming into Mercer County and prosecute the dealers to the fullest extent of the law. If elected, I promise a relentless pursuit against this scourge corrupting our communities.

Meet Marcus

Marcus and his wife Dawn currently reside in Springfield Township and have been Mercer County Residents for 25 years.  Together they have 5 children and 13 grandchildren.  Both he and Dawn attend New Life Baptist Church in New Wilmington.

Marcus started his business in 1987 utilizing his skills as a sales engineer and project manager in the steel and aluminum industries. In the last thirty years, his company has been involved in equipment design, production and sales process from end-to-end.  This includes contract negotiations, design, development, manufacturing, installation, and start-up of over $350 million dollars’ worth of equipment manufactured entirely in the United States and exclusively from American parts. Instrumental in creating billions of dollars in revenue and thousands of high-paying jobs here in the United States, the equipment has supplemented equipment imported from 17 countries and has solely been implemented in aluminum and steel plants here in the United States.

The terrorist attacks against our nation on September 11, 2001 impacted Marcus in a profound way.  It inspired him to train in many aspects of public safety.  Currently, Marcus now holds the highest certifications from the National Sheriffs Association and from the American Board of Certification in Homeland Security.  He is also a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a Pennsylvania State Constable in his second term after being elected both in 2009 and 2015.

Education has always been a passion of Marcus’s. Being an instructor since 1983, training in and teaching many subjects, he has instructed adults, children and those with special needs.  It is his belief that a well-educated population is critical to our nations’ strength.   Marcus is currently employed as an instructor for multiple organizations including the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, Penn State University, multiple national sporting associations, the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and other emergency response organizations.  He is an active member of the community, contributing both time and money to numerous charitable organizations, emergency response agencies, sporting associations and youth programs.

With the support and encouragement of his wife, family and friends, Marcus announced on January 9, 2019 that he will seek the position of Mercer County Commissioner.   Dedicated and committed, Marcus looks forward to serving the community and helping fellow Mercer county residents, using his tested skills and experience in the areas of business development, job creation, public safety and skill-based education.
